And now a word from our sponsor -
Those who want even more His Dogness will be pleased to know that he stars in two books and graces a line of cards and prints.
"His Dogness Finds a Blue Heart" is a picture book with words by Kim and illustrations by Garnet. The story begins with His Dogness coming upon a blue heart in a ditch. He and Lord Kelvin (a character Kim borrowed from a book that he routinely thinks about but has yet to write) take the heart on some adventures around Winston-Salem in hopes of cheering it up.
"Dope on a Rope: Oddments from the Mind of Kim Underwood," which came out in 1998, is a collection of 54 columns from Kim's early days as a features columnist for the "Winston-Salem Journal." Kim's mother bought a passel of copies and gave them to friends. But the long lines of people wanting autographed copies that Kim imagined didn't materialize and you won't find it in your local bookstore. You can, however, pick up a copy at Chelsee's Coffee Shop and More, where Kim and friends gather on Saturday mornings. If you get there before Jean, please don't order the last lemon bar. It throws off her whole week when she can't have one.
John F. Blair, Publisher of Winston-Salem published and distributes "His Dogness Finds a Blue Heart," which came out in 2004. It is available through bookstores and Amazon.com It can also be found at Best Friendz Dog Bakery & Boutique, the Winston-Salem Visitor Center, Hampton House Gallery, The Enrichment Center and Chelsee's.
You can also pick up the cards and prints at many of those places. You will find His Dogness birthday and (in season) holiday cards along with images from "Blue Heart" and featuring such local spots at the giant coffee pot in Old Salem, the Shell station that looks like a shell, Pilot Mountain and the Reynolds Building.
By all means, let Kim know if you would like to carry His Dogness products. You may also order cards, prints and books from Kim, who will be happy to personalize and sign books. You may reach Kim at
